My work had been internationally acknowledged at different levels. Recognition first appeared in the spreading of event history surveys, during the two decades that followed the 3B survey, in different parts of the world, developed as well as developing. The volume on Event history of surveys shows perfectly the spread of these methods with the specific problems raised in different countries (14 surveys are presented there). It is also indicated in the numerous invited papers published in international handbooks and encyclopedias: the Social Science Encyclopedia (1995); the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, vol. 10, Demography, Jan Hoem ed (2001); the treatise in population studies Demography: Analysis and Synthesis, four vol. set, Graziella Caselli, Jacques Vallin, Guillaume Wunsh eds (2006) also published in French and in Italian, etc. This recognition is shown in the editorship of the European Journal of Population with David Coleman, for more than 12 years. This period was a very fruitful for me as it enabled me to take a global view of different approaches that were being used in social sciences. As editors of this journal we gave priority to work that contributed to the development of theory and methods and methods that spanned the boundaries between demography and other social sciences. I also made my modest contribution as a member of the Editorial Committees of Population for many years and of the International Journal of Population Geography from its inception. Many requests for Prefaces that I received for publications on the themes I developed show the growing acceptance of these approaches in social sciences. Finally, the organization with Bocquet-Appel and Pumain of an international seminar on the Spatial Analysis of Biodemographic Data (1995) with geographers, demographers and human population biologists, the invitation to organize four session on the theme Theories and Methods of Population Studies for the European Population Conference (1999), the invitation to present a synthetic view of my work in the Flagship Conference (2000), the invitation to present to sociologists multilevel event history analysis for the XVIth Congress of the Association of French Speaking Sociologists (2000), etc., show the great variety of subjects these approaches tackle in numerous social sciences.
